WELCOME TO ORSTON VILLAGE HALL

Orston village hall is managed by a charitable trust, which operates under the auspices of the Charity Commission (No. 522283).

In February 1929 the site of the present village hall was sold to the then owner of Orston Hall, Mr F E Burton, for the sum of £25. On the land at that time stood a timber pavilion but in 1941 this was demolished by a bomb dropped nearby.

Four years later the land was given to a body of trustees as the site for a village hall, and those trustees applied to the Charity Commission for the land to be vested in the Official Custodian, which was granted in April 1946. The trusteeship then passed to the members for the time being of the Management Committee.

The present hall, which is of traditional brick and tile construction, was formally opened by Her Grace the Duchess of Portland on 15th March 1951, the building costs having been raised by public subscription.

Management of the hall remains the responsibility of a Committee, a team of volunteers who are elected annually, and they conduct the business of this valuable village asset, including raising sufficient funds to cover general running costs. The hall is used for a variety of recreational and entertainment purposes for the people of Orston and surrounding area, and is the venue for many public and private social events.

We receive no external funding to cover general maintenance costs, which are significant, and all income is generated by the Committee who donate their time and energy to ensure this valuable amenity is available to all. Capital projects are funded by a combination of donations and grants.

The committee are always prepared to seek assistance and welcome anyone who has ideas or is willing to make a contribution to the running of YOUR VILLAGE HALL.

If you are interested in contributing or have any ideas then please contact one of the trustees or email using the 'contact form' tab above.
